Before I post this question, I'm going to go ahead and say that we can do without the critisism. I'm not interested in how offended you might be by this topic, so don't bother flaming me for it. Now onto the question.
I'd like to play around with a ouija board for the amusement of it. I was wondering if there was some sort of accessible format out there, or if anyone might have any ideas on how to make a board accessible. I've never seen one before, so I'm not entirely sure how it's laid out. I'm not involved in it, but I've always had an interest in the ceremonial aspect of wiccan, and I think it would be interesting to have a ouija board.
be very careful with them. If I were you, I'd treat one with great respect, as well as any spirits you may call with it. Be sure to let said spirits know that they may leave whenever they wish to do so so that you don't intrap them or anger them. I too would love to have a ouija board, though I don't think it's possible to make one accessible. I think it has something to do with the layout and how the arrows moves when the spirits communicate. from what I've read, you actually need to keep your hand on the arrow, so it wouldn't really be possible to read it at the same time with a conventional board. However, Maybe, there's a way that a board can be adapted for the blind. It would just take a bit of ingenuity. There are also other accessible ways of communicating with spirits. In any case, here's the Wikipedia article.

I know I don't know everything, but I don't think Ouija boards are directly linked with Wicca. It's possible to be a Wiccan and have an interest in Ouija, just as it's possible to be a non-Wiccan and be interested in Ouija, but the two aren't necessarily connected. As for accessibility, I've never seen one either, but I'm not sure. The way I see it is if someone on the other side or a spirit really wants your attention, they'll find a way to let you know. Could be wrong about that too though.
I agree that I don't think it'd be possible to make a Ouja board accessible. I know for sure it couldn't be done in Braille, because of the pointer needing to be over the letters and the hands needing to be on the thing like someone else had mentioned. Also, even if it were possible to read the Braille while it points to each letter/symbol, some spirits move the pointer faster than others, so trying to read the Braille would interfere with that. I wonder if they could make some kind of talking version, but then I think that would make it feel a bit weird (at least I know it would be to me), the fact that you're talking with a spirit and the board or pointer is telling you each letter/symbol it stops at.
I didn't realize there was a connection to Wiccan and Ouija boards, either. Personally, I do not put any stock in them, but Haunted Reverie, that is in no way meant to flame you for your interest, so please do not mistake me.
I'm not sure how a Ouija board could be made accessible either, for the same reasons stated above. Any Braille or other raised markings would inhibit the movement of the pointer, regardless of how you believe it moves. I wonder if there are any resources you could contact about this? To many people, Ouija boards are considered serious spiritual items. To many others, they are simply considered a toy/game. So I wonder if anyone who makes and/or sells accessible games could answer this? Might not hurt to contact resources who do. The worst they can tell you is no, they don't make one or have never heard of one.
I think a talking board would be wonderful. Incidentally, that's the other name for a Ouija board. As for the practise being Wiccan, while I haven't heard of that, I don't doubt they use this tool as well. If spirits really want to contact us, they absolutely find ways. You just need to be open to them.
A talking board would be interesting, but then the only problem would be how would it be powered? Batteries would interfere with many peoples' ban on electronics during spiritual activities. Maybe that didn't come out so smoothly, but I hope you understand what I meant.
Well, if they're blind and really want to use a board, they'll need to make a few sacrifices. After all, paranormal investigators use tons of electronics in their work. The only real problem I could see is it might interfere with the spirits themselves. They've been known to have a strange affect on electronics, so unintentionally, they might make it go hay wire and thereby make it unusable. then again, people have managed to record their voices on tape etc. so it might work.
Yeah, I thought of paranormal investigators, but I wasn't sure how their equipment worked. And yeah, I've heard spirits like to play with electronics I go back to what I said before. If they want your attention, they'll find a way to let you know.
wegi boards, are not connected with wicca, not directly. but, just a word of warning, yes, even if you tell the spirits that they are free to leave when ever, there are dangers involved. because you can get anything, light, dark, molevent or kind.
but they do have other ways... like example, i walked into my bedroom, and felt like there were little icy tingles running over my entire body. and, just this feeling that it was really cold, at first i thought it was harmful, then when a friend made me look from it from a different perspective. i found out that all it wanted was the shell i had on my desk. i'm not sure why. but there you go...
Be very, very, careful with those things. Personally I'd say don't mess around with the ouiji board unless there's one or more senstive/psychic medium in the room. Even then, if a spiret wants to contact you, they will do so, probably without the help/hinderence of a ouiji board.
In answer to the original question though, there must be a way of making the oard accessible, although right now I don't know how because one hand will be in the way of the glass while it is moving. Magnetic tape is very good though at picking up voices and other sounds if you leave it running and leave the room for a period of time, but do! Not! use the online interactive ouiji boards! I haven't had any experience with those but 1, what's the point and 2, they're probably worse than the physical thing because the spiret has more work to do to communicate with us.
If a spiret wants to communicate with us, he/she will do so in their own time either through a medium or other source of their choosing.
Feel free to quicknote me or whatever if people want to know anything else, but think I'd better leave it at that for now.
Agreed wit most that's been said. My first and only experience with these boards was to dangerous, and while I admit being curious again; (it's been years) my first experience sticks in my head, and I wonder if it would be wise or stupid...Anyways, :) Goodluck.
i wouldn't mess with those things unless you know what you're doing. if you're going to do it purely for the fun of it then believe me you'll leave the experience thinking that it wasn't so fun after all.
*agrees with previous post*
Plese don't mess with these things. When I was 12 I played with a ouija board. You don't know who your talking to and spirits can lie. We got a poltergheist that broke vases smashed cabinets and scared the crap out of all of us. It took my aunt throwing the thing in the fire and the bishop coming to do a blessing on the house. Exit ghost. Automatic writing would be a far safer option. Do you know who you want to contact? What is your real goal? Intention is everything in magic. It's not a toy. Tiffany
I wonder if it's possible to do automatic writing via computer? If I were doing it by myself, I couldn't use a pencil or pen because I can't see.
it is. i've done it, a friend has done it. it's no different then using pencile and paper. the first way i learned waas to hold my arm out and ask questions, and my arm would move in the air to spell out the words...
It is possible to do automatic handwriting, although I haven't done it for ages. Don't mess with ouiji boards as I've said above, but agree with ablindgibsongirl.
Can automatic handwriting still work for someone who has never seen, be it the individual engaged in it or the spirit?
It can work for the individual who is participating in the automatic handwriting yes, but not entirely sure if it was the other way round, for example the spiret had never seen in their last physical life here. I hadn't thought of it in that way to be honest, but this topic isn't called past lives or anything similar, so I won't start writing an essay and confusing everyone.
The last time I did try to do automatic handwriting I got someone to tell me what it was of the next day because I can't see well enough to tell what it was. It wasn't of anyhing in particular, but oh well. And now i can't even find a pen around here, let alone a pencil. Hahaaha.
I'd use a perkins for auto writing. Unless your handy with slate and stylus it's the closest we've got to handwriting. Tiffany
Really? Wouldn't the noise of a Perkins interrupt the process? Also the force needed to press the keys; it's not just like moving the pencel around. My thought is that with automatic handwriting, it's not really you doing the writing, at least not as you are now. It's either your memory from a past life, or something else, and presumeably they'd know how to write. They'd be guiding you; you're just the vessel.
They would know how to handwrite with a pen/pencil, most likely. But what about if the person was sighted and didn't know braille or lived before the typewriter/computer or never used one? That could get tricky, unless, somehow, he/she could use your knowledge to get his/her point across to you.
Agree with post 22. I still wouldn't say use a ouija board because you're just asking for trouble to put it short.
Hi. As has been said before, be very careful with a ouija board and any other method of communication/interaction. I used to think it was all a joke, until I had certain experiences. Be careful and don't get over your head. It's not a game, and that is all I'm saying on this topic right now.
here is a online ouija board
Find a way to make the idiomotor effect accesssible, and you'll have your answer. Tie a rock to a string and ask yes or no questions, have the answers be given by the swing of the rock. Idiomotor effect, accessibility, everybody's happy. You could even just hold a golf club and let it swing back and forth and tell you the answer. Again, idiomotor effect, accessibility, everybody's happy.
Oh, and no, I won't define what the idiomotor effect is anymore than to say its what fuels every device named on here. Well any that are used for contacting spirits anyway; save perhaps for the online one.
